The restoration of the cave where the icon of the Most Holy Mother of God, Čajnička Krasnica, was hidden during World War II

During World War II, the miraculous icon of the Most Holy Mother of God, Čajnička Krasnica, was hidden in the village of Trpinje, in a very inaccessible cave that only two people could enter.

The icon was kept in the cave until Mala Gospojina in 1946 when the old Čajniče church was renovated and consecrated. It was then returned to the Old Church, where it was originally located when it arrived in Čajniče.

On Mala Gospojina in 1959, the icon was transferred to the renovated and consecrated New Church. It was placed in the same spot where it is still located today. Deacon Uglješa Skoko from Čajniče is restoring the cave where the icon was kept, with the support of the local community and kind-hearted individuals.

According to tradition, the icon of the Most Holy Mother of God, Čajnička Krasnica, was painted by the Holy Apostle and Evangelist Luke, who also painted the Three-Handed Hilandar Icon and the icon of the Most Holy Mother of God, which is preserved in Jerusalem. The front side of the icon depicts the Mother of God with the child Christ, and on the back is the icon of Saint John the Baptist, whose image was damaged in a fire, hence it is dark, just like the images of the Mother of God and the child Christ that she holds in her arms.
